Book Review: Thinking in Pictures, Expanded Edition: My Life with Autism by Dr. Temple Grandin, 2006.

I have found great value over the years in reading autobiographies written by autistic adults. Autism can present in many different ways, so having someone articulate how it presents for them has helped me understand my clients more fully over the years. Dr. Grandin's descriptions of how her brain works and her struggles with verbal processing have been especially helpful over the years in understanding my therapy clients who have similar struggles, but can't describe them. As Dr. Grandin is one of the first and probably most well-known autistic advocates, Thinking in Pictures, Expanded Edition: My Life with Autism has always been on my list of 'must reads' for anyone who wants to know more about autism. I also often recommend the movie "Temple Grandin" staring Claire Danes.
