Book Review: ADHD Is Our Superpower The Amazing Talents and Skills of Children with ADHD, Adriana Camargo (Illustrated by) , Soli Lazarus (Author)
This book is written for kids with ADHD to help them learn more about their diagnosis. It is filled with two page vignettes where a diverse group of children share their experiences with ADHD. In each vignette, there is a drawing of the child speaking, information about the ADHD diagnosis, information about the child’s strengths, and their challenges, which often include how adults and others get angry with them. To my autistic brain, it felt a bit busy, but I think that many ADHD-ers would be able to sit with parents and read one vignette at the time, giving them the opportunity to share what they relate to and ask questions. That being said, my ADHD-er flat out refused to read it, as reading has always been way too sedentary of an activity. I read the whole book in about a half an hour, so parents who want to screen it before reading it with their child would easily be able to do this. It was written in the UK, so there are a few terms that are less common in America, such as the use of the word “cross,” instead of “mad” or “angry.” Overall, I think this is a great book to help children understand their diagnosis.
