Book Review: Unmasking Autism by Devon Price, PhD.
Unmasking Autism by Devon Price, PhD., is a well-researched book that reviews information about high masking autistic people. This book came from Dr. Price’s own experience of being a late diagnosed autistic adult and his investigation into what this meant. He shares the latest research, along with personal experiences from both himself and other autistic adults as he reviews the concept of masking, the toll it takes on the individual, and imagines a world where neurodiversity is valued and masking is no longer needed. I read this book shortly after it was published it in preparation for my doctoral capstone and used it as a reference throughout my work. I also read this book at a time when I was just realizing that I was one of the high masking, undiagnosed autistic adults that he was talking about. I regularly recommend this book to both colleagues and clients, and value the content for being both scholarly and informative, as well as very personal.
