Book Review: NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman.

NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity is an excellent book that reviews the history of autism. Silberman does a great job of outlining this history in a balanced way, acknowledging the positives and negatives that have shaped our understanding of autism. I found this book to be invaluable in shaping my own understanding, as a scholarly resource in my doctoral program, and I cited it frequently in my own therapy book. I did have someone recently give feedback that they found some of the history to be upsetting, so keep in mind that it reviews some very difficult topics related to ableism, discrimination, institutionalization, mistreatment, and other similar topics. This book should be available at your local library and comes in print, e-book, and audio formats.
